Java does require more overhead, so it’s generally not practical to give a complete program that does compile.

Even so, it would be nice if the examples required the addition of only obviously pro forma boilerplate to become validly compiling.

Maybe the Wolfram Language or Python might work better for you (that is if Python has a tacit multiplication operator). Or maybe use the *.pseudo extension.
